The objective of this study is to evaluate the biological, physicochemical and thermal characteristics of a mortar, using sargassum as an organic supplementary cementitious material, which can be used as a thermal insulator. Differentiation and characterization of the collected species was carried out, as well as physicochemical analyzes to determine the elemental and chemical composition and a morphological analysis of the sargassum with techniques such as DRX, FRX and EDS-SEM. The effect of sargassum was evaluated by analyzing substitution proportions in a mortar with 5, 10, 15 and 20%. The results show that the mechanical compressive strength, the thermal conductivity and the thermal transmittance decrease with the increase of sargassum content in the mortar, however, the specific heat increases with respect to the increase of the substitution percentage, indicating a decrease in heat transfer. inside the house.
